Ana Kasparian — Trump PROVES He's Not Serious About Peace

The Iranian delegation stormed out of peace negotiations in Switzerland. That's because Trump threatened all of their lives. Let's watch this. >> I just spoke with President Trump for more than 20 minutes and he gave some new insight and reaction about the ongoing talks that are taking place in Switzerland and the threats coming from the Iranian regime. President Trump telling Fox News that the US may take over the strait in the future if they have to and collect tolls. The president described this as the United States being the guardian angel of the Strait of Hormuz and the Middle East. And the president said ultimately that would involve the US taking 20% of the oil that passes through the strait. Remember, this comes in reaction to the Iranians saying they will close the Strait of Hormuz in response to Israeli strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon. President Trump tells Fox News he spoke with Iranian officials overnight and said, "You close it and you won't have a country." He went on to tell these officials, "You won't even make it back to your effing country." >> "You won't make it back to your effing country." Which is a obviously threat against their lives and Mohammad Galibaf, the Iranian parliamentary speaker, didn't take kindly to that as you can imagine. He says, "Don't they think to themselves that if their threats had any effect, they wouldn't have reached the point of desperation today? We don't take the threats of the Americans seriously. They better be careful with their statements. Our armed forces are ready to respond in another way. Whatever they say, we are the ones who will act." Now, it is true that the Iranians have shown a tremendous amount of restraint even considering the fact that the framework of the MOU, memorandum of understanding, indicated that the Israeli hostility and aggression against the Lebanese people in Southern Lebanon needed to end. They haven't responded to that yet and it's because they are engaged in a good faith effort to actually find a solution to end this war. But, I got to be honest with you. For everything that we've been hearing from both Vice President J.D. Vance and from Trump himself on on and off again, because he really switches back and forth depending on the hour in any given day, I don't think they actually do want peace. Because if they want a peace deal, the only way that you're going to get it is by reining in Israel's behavior. And the only way you can do that is by leveraging the money and weaponry the United States shells out to the Israelis on a regular basis in order to help them sustain their now multiple wars in the region. And since they're not serious about doing it, I don't believe them. I I mean, think about it. Trump issues this statement as soon as Vice President Vance lands in Switzerland for peace negotiations. Thus, like the Israelis, sabotaging or attempting to sabotage peace negotiations. >> So, I'm torn on that. Because why bother taking all the heat like J.D. Vance is, unless it's all a giant game, which is not at all impossible. I understand what you're saying, because you Vance could be saying, "Oh golly gee, I tried so hard for peace. That's why you should vote for me in 2028. Remember when I tried for peace for like a minute and a half? But then there was nothing we could do. Those mean Iranians, they brought dragged us back into war by continuing to defend their homes when they should know that their homes are Israel's. And the Lebanese are the worst, okay? They They They're all anti-semites for not giving away their entire country to Israel. So, golly gee, there was nothing we could do. We had to go back to war." But it But Anna, I don't think that'll work at all, right? I don't think any of this will work. If they think they're going to trick people with that, that's absurd. So, I think there is some chance that they genuinely are trying to get out of the war. And so, hold on. We'll get We'll give me one more sec here on that. So, look, uh the Jeremy Scahill had had a really interesting report for Dryside News that the Iranians hired a psychologist because they were concerned that Donald Trump is mentally ill and they needed to know how to speak to a someone who's mentally ill because his words never match one another. One second he goes, "We're going to have the greatest peace with Iran. The whole thing's resolved." Then he turns around and goes, "I'm going to murder them all including their negotiators." And they're like, "Well, how do you talk to a mentally ill person like this?" So, okay. I think that's on the board. I think it's a possibility and he doesn't really know what he's doing and he's a fool and he's caught in between a rock and a hard place. >> I think the Iranians are making a mistake. Trita Parsi would be very upset with me for saying this, but here's what I actually think is happening. Now, um it it didn't surprise me that the memorandum of understanding had one other provision in it that's really, really important in in my opinion understanding what the Americans are doing here, what our government is doing. So, the MOU indicates that uh ships will transit through the Strait of Hormuz toll-free for the next 60 days. Now, what is that for? Well, that is to relieve the devastating pressure of this, you know, energy squeeze that the global economy is experiencing due to the closure and reopening and then closure and reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Now, you might be wondering why haven't gas prices gotten to or oil prices gotten to like $150 per barrel yet? You know, this has been dragging on for a while. Well, it's because the United States has been expending its strategic petroleum reserve. So, in order to, you know, lessen the blow for the global community, we have been selling that oil like crazy and we are quickly running out. So, I believe that what's happening here is a total game in order to get the Iranians to open up transit in the Strait of Hormuz, kind of help ease what's happening with the economy, I have no doubt that the kinetic action, the war, is going to restart again. And at that point, I think maybe the United States will be able to build some of its military weaponry or arsenal necessary to go back to war with Iran. But my point is, that is what I think is actually happening here. And if I'm proven to be correct, Iran is making a mistake. >> So, look, the memorandum of understanding on the other hand also includes Lebanon. And if we didn't mean it, why would we allow the Iranians to include Lebanon in the memorandum of understanding? >> it is in the MOU, but I mean, Israel carpet bombed Lebanon just this past weekend. >> No, of course I know that. >> nothing happened. >> Well, my point is, the fact that America put that in, knowing that Israel is unlikely to leave, and is trying to pressure them to leave, and etc., shows you that there's some chance that they're being earnest, okay? So, and remember, this war, if it continues, will be an economic collapse, and they know it. >> They know it. They Yes, that's why I think, you know, they think this is going to be like a little release valve, right? The MOU, the 60 days will be a little release valve. >> it's not going to get it done, and they'd be crazy to think that. So, now, having said that, um look, anyone that's rational knows that Israel's never leaving Lebanon. We just did a segment where we showed you all four of their top leaders saying, "We're never leaving Lebanon. In fact, we're considering burning all of Lebanon." That's what Ben-Gvir said. And so, that means, if you're an American negotiator, i.e., the president, the vice president, etc., you have to realize most things are not zero or 100%, but this one is. Because if you don't cut off ties with Israel, they will always drag you back into wars. >> Cut off their weapons. But they're not serious about doing that, Jake. So, I don't believe that they want peace. >> my point, which is that if Trump wants peace, he will like after 200 examples and we're on example number 198 now, he will come to the conclusion that any rational person would, which is if I don't cut off Israel, uh they're going to stay in Lebanon and Iran doesn't want them to stay in Lebanon and this war with me in it is going to drag on forever. So, you don't have a choice. It's either peace or Israel. But you can't get both cuz Israel is not for peace and it and certainly in this era it never will be. And it's it's greed is endless. It is continuing to take the West Bank, continuing to take Gaza, now in Southern Lebanon claiming uh Lebanese waters as well because there's a gas field there. So, you're not going to be able to get Israel to stop attacking. That is definitely 100% not possible. Okay? >> about that, which is why I will believe the Trump administration is pushing for peace once they put real action behind their words. I don't care that you wagged your finger at a war criminal, Benjamin Netanyahu. I don't care about the tough talk in private phone conversations, which get leaked to Barack Barack so he can report it for Axios. It's total BS. I don't care about any of that. At this point, we need to have higher standards and we should demand action that goes beyond these in my opinion dog and pony show peace negotiations that just happened in Switzerland. Okay, just keeping it 100. I love how J.D. Vance by the way, one of the things he said in his happy talk following the meetings was you know, major breakthrough, major breakthrough. Iran agrees to allow IAEA inspectors into the country. Huh? Nah. Okay, but they were doing that already until your boss ripped up the JCPOA. Uh by the way, after that for a long time they continued abiding by the JCPOA even though it had been completely violated, right? Thrown in the trash by Trump. Later, they started enriching uranium and they stopped working with the IAEA's inspectors after the 12-day war. So, they followed the rules, you bombed them anyway. They don't trust anyone and I don't blame them for not trusting anyone. >> So, look, it's just real quick on that. But, that's that's JD Vance trying to paint the peace process as a positive and saying that they got something positive from the Iranians in return. If you're working with the Israelis, you are unlikely to compliment the Iranians. And you do see Mark Levin and the rest of the Israel first livid at JD Vance. >> I know, I know. But, but Jake, these people are unhinged. They're livid with JD Vance because he dared to say even a little bit that was critical of Israel. You're not allowed to do that if you're in the US government. You're just supposed to get on your knees and pleasure them. And and that's what, you know, JD Vance for the most part has been doing. But, he, you know, jabbed them just a little bit last week and I allowed myself to get a little too excited about that and I regret it. Okay, I totally regret it cuz these people are complete and utter frauds. Okay, if they wanted peace, they know exactly what they need to do and they are unwilling to do it. >> Yeah. And so, there's a poll out from CBS News, ironically of all people, asking the conflict with Iran, what should the US do now? 78% of the country says, "End the conflict now." Only 22% say continue conflict with Iran until Iran gives up more. So, what America is saying is eight out of 10 Americans are saying, "Good enough. That's a good deal by Trump. Let's come home." Whether he could have gotten Obama had a better deal, whether we could have gotten a better deal before the war are irrelevant. Those ships have already sailed. Do you think the current deal is good enough? 78% of the country says yes. 98% of the people on TV say no. So, they're all arguing against peace. Every anchor on MS now, every anchor on CNN, every anchor on Fox News, every Democrat and every Republican on television is all saying screw eight out of 10 Americans. Israel wants more war and whether you like it or not, we're going to drive you back into the war. And why? All the politicians got paid by the Israeli lobby. That's a stone-cold fact and the media can answer for themselves. But guys, the one thing that is absolutely clear is no matter if Anna's right or I'm right, whether this was real or not real, it doesn't really matter. The only thing that matters is are you going to listen to 80% of the country that says end the war or are you not going to listen to them and you're going to listen to Israel instead? Because we're super clear. America is shouting at Washington, get out of the war. Not unclear at all. But you turn on TV and you'd think that it was the exact opposite.
