Brett Cooper — Chappell Roan Is Everything Wrong With Celebrity Culture

Okay, guys, I don't know what's worse. Chappell Roan, allegedly sending her security guard to bully a 10-year-old girl, or her fans defending her because of {quote} internalized misogyny and homophobia, of course. And now, guys, don't you dare click away from this video because you don't care about pop culture or celebrity drama because the point of this video is not really about celebrities or Chappell Roan. It really is about how the bar for being just a normal good person has gotten so incredibly low that we are now spending time and wasting breath on the internet debating over whether a innocent child should be reprimanded by a random security guard and how stan culture has gotten so out of hand that Chappell Roan's fans will go to new lows to defend her.

That is the point of this episode. Now, before we dive into this, make sure that you like this video and subscribe to the channel if you've not already. So, the context here, in case you have missed the absolute uproar on X over the last few days or so, is that on Saturday, a Brazilian soccer player whose name is Jorginho Frello.

Frello? I am not a football fan, so I'm sorry if I mispronounced that, but he posted this extremely long story on Instagram. Obviously, I cannot translate this word for word. I do not have the translated version here, but to make this brief, what he said is that his stepdaughter is a massively huge fan of Chappell Roan and that she and her mom, his wife, happened to be staying at the same hotel as Chappell and had plans to see her at this big Brazilian music festival or tour where Chappell was slated to perform later that weekend.

The little girl, the stepdaughter, she saw Chappell in the restaurant of this hotel while they were eating breakfast. She excitedly got up and she said, you know, I'm going to walk past Chappell's table to see if it's actually her. And that's all she did. She got up, she walked away from her table, she walked past Chappell, she caught a glimpse, she gave her a smile, apparently, and then she moved on her way and came back to the table where her mother was waiting for her.

She did not say hi, she did not say, "Hey, are you Chappell Roan?" She didn't pull out her phone and start taking like secret photos from behind a coffee cup or a bush. She didn't ask for it, she didn't do anything. She allegedly allegedly just smiled. Now, the next thing that this mom and daughter know, a security guard from the area where Chappell was sitting is coming up to their table, allegedly telling Jorginho's wife to teach their daughter not to harass and not to disrespect people.

Now, the security guard was apparently a huge guy, he terrified the girl, he allegedly made her cry. So, that was the story. Jorginho posted this on his social media, he said, you know, I'm so disappointed in Chappell Roan, just FYI, we had this awful experience. Do not do this to a child, she was so excited to see you. He even shared a photo of the little sign his daughter had made to hold up at the concert. She was like, "Hot to go, I love you, Chappell Roan," whatever it is.

And immediately, the internet blew up. I don't know if Chappell Roan did not know how deep the football fandom goes. I don't know if she did not know who she was dealing with, but oh my gosh, people lit up. And what you need to know is that this story didn't go viral because it was some new revelation about Chappell Roan, some new crazy story that took the world by storm and shocked everyone because as you are soon going to realize, it is so completely predictable and honestly expected at this point with Chappell Roan.

She is condescending, she is rude, she is ungrateful, and she honestly seems like she really, really hates being rich, successful, and famous. And so, this story, insulting a child, allegedly sending her security guard to bully a child, was just the icing on the cake, and the internet ran with it. The translations of his posts had tens of millions of views, the memes have been hilarious. They've been hilarious because they're honest.

Look at this. This person captioned this video and said, "Child, OMG, it's Chappell Roan." Security guard just absolutely pummeling the small being through a wall. Another person shared this one and said, "Chappell Roan on the Titanic lifeboats." >> [laughter] >> She's like, "Get the F out of my face." And I know those might be harsh, but you know what? The internet is a harsh place, and it is fair because allegedly, she sent a security guard to harass a child for smiling at her.

So, yeah, sorry, Chappell, if you're upset, but I do think the reaction is fair. And also, we already know that Chappell Roan doesn't like children. Like, literally this time last year, I did an episode of the show about Chappell's caller daddy episode where she said that back at home in Missouri, all of her friends that have kids are in hell, apparently. She said they're miserable. She didn't know a single happy parent at all, just looks awful, she can't ever see herself having children.

Like, Chappell, sorry, not to psychoanalyze you, but maybe that was projection. Maybe that was your own dislike of the lifestyle of children. Maybe now that we've seen this interaction, or at least heard about it, now we're really understanding where those viral comments from 2025 actually came from. Anyway, moving on from that, after about 24 hours of this, Chappell finally, begrudgingly, oh, they pulled her out of her drag and her makeup, and she finally gave the internet a response.

But, it was the most typical Gen Z bored leftist thing any of us could have ever concocted. It was apathetic, it was dismissive, and per usual, it was completely avoidant of any accountability or personal responsibility. Just watch. I'm just going to tell my half of the story of what happened today with a mother and child who were involved with a security guard who is not my personal security. I didn't even see I didn't even see a woman and a child.

Like, I did not No one came up to me. No one bothered me. This is my favorite part of the video. She didn't see them, nobody came up to her, and yet this happened allegedly. She didn't see anybody. There was no harassment that happened. All right, let her continue. I did not ask the security guard to go up and talk to this mother and child. I did not They did not come up to me. They weren't doing anything. It's unfair for security to just assume someone doesn't have good intentions.

I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children. Like, that is crazy. I'm sorry to the mother and child that that someone was assuming something that you would do something and that if you felt uncomfortable, that makes me really sad. You did not deserve Like that, that makes me really sad that somebody would assume you of something. It just makes me really sad. I mean, Chappell, even if I wanted to, I really don't think I would believe that you were being genuine here.

She's not looking at the camera, it's all so passive, and you might go like, "Okay, but Brett, she said she didn't do anything. She said it's not her security guard." Okay, well, there are two points that we need to discuss. Number one, Chappell's track record, which we will get to, and number two, the mother of the girl, who also decided to speak out, and she made her own video. Now, we are not going to watch the entire thing because it is almost 7 minutes long, but here are a couple of clips.

A lot of you asked me like, what actually happened and everything else. And I know that Chappell has has responded saying that it wasn't um that she didn't it wasn't her security and that she didn't do it. So, 100% this security guard was not a security guard of the hotel. That's what I can say. Um he looks after artists, so I don't know if it was her personal security guard, but he was with her. So, that's that is all I know.

Do Did she send him to do it? Again, I don't know. I did try and explain to him the situation that she's a child and she was just very excited to see her, an artist and singer that she had admires, and and can he not understand that was all she was doing, and uh my explained to him also that my husband is also very well known and that we're very she's very used to being around people that are well known and she would never cross someone's boundaries or overstep a mark.

She very much knows the limits not to uh ever, you know, be rude or make anyone feel She understands She understands very well. And I tried to explain this to him and then he just kept saying, "Well, if you If If that's the case, then you should know better. You should know how it is. You should know how it is, so you should teach your You should teach her to be better. You shouldn't allow her to be like this." And I was I was shocked.

Um And I did actually say to him at the time, I said, "Well, if this the case that uh she doesn't even want people to look at her, she is very welcome to eat breakfast in her room because this here is a public area and I am a paying guest as well as her." Okay, pausing here because a few things to say. Number one, obviously, this is definitely a he said, she said situation. We will get there, obviously. But, number two, I do think that this girl's mother made an excellent point about the world that her daughter has grown up in.

You know, the mother that you saw here, she is a singer-songwriter, her stepfather has millions upon millions upon millions of fans, is apparently one of the best midfielders in the world, if only I knew what that actually meant, but that's what I read on Google. And then, guys, her father Her biological father, guess who her father is. Jude Law. This is not a child that is screeching and freaking out over seeing a celebrity or doesn't know etiquette when dealing with somebody who is well known or famous.

And the last point I'll make here is that I just loved what she said at the end there. Because if this actually did happen in the way that they perceived it with Chappell and it being her security guard, I mean, if a child walking by and noticing Chappell is threatening enough for her to send her security guard, or if she has in the past set that kind of precedent so that her team automatically does this without her direction, then maybe maybe you shouldn't be eating at a public place.

What we're dealing with here is kind of the name of the game. And across the board, Chappell's entire MO just seems to be fighting that on every single level. I mean, she's constantly acting like being rich and successful is some kind of oppression and she has a right not to be watched and looked at even though she makes millions of dollars singing her silly little songs and dancing on a stage. Somebody commented and said, "Some people aren't meant to be celebrities and that's okay.

Chappell Roan wants A-list celebrity privileges and money without any of the drawbacks and it just doesn't work that way. A trade-off with fame is dealing with paparazzi and people wanting your picture. That's like literally the bare minimum. You are not a famous person if you do not have that. You're not a famous person if people do not know who you are. That's literally the definition. Chappell, do you want to do you want to go back to Missouri?

Do you want to go back to singing in parks with 10 people in a crowd? Do you want to be broke and unknown again because you are welcome to go back to that. You are welcome to take a step back, become unknown again. The internet moves at the speed of light. People will forget about you and move on to the next queer pop artist in like 5 minutes. You can disappear if this is too oppressive, too anxiety-inducing for you.

But of course, I don't think that Chappell Roan actually wants any of that. She just likes having something to be angry about and let me tell you, Chappell Roan is always angry. All right, so sidebar here. I don't know what happened with Chappell and this photographer at the Grammys after-party, but based on what I know about Chappell, he probably said, "Hey Chappell, can I take your picture?" And she lost it on him.

Like that must be the rude encounter they had because literally the bare minimum, especially if the story with the child is true, the bare minimum sets her off. Like guys, both of those videos are on red carpets. You have shown up knowing that there is going to be a crowd of people yelling at you hoping that they catch you in their lens instead of the guy standing next to them. Like that's it's literally work. It's not them showing up outside of your home.

You are literally there to work. Meanwhile, Chappell Roan is off on some side quest yelling shut the F up to some person who I don't even think was speaking to her. Like if you rewatch that video, you hear shut the F up. I think the guy was speaking to somebody else. He's not directing it at her. She whips around, "Not me, bitch." He wasn't even speaking to you. Where did that come from? Anger management classes, go find Randy Fine.

Go join him. I think you both need it. Anyway, moving on from that, sorry. I had to throw that out there, but like this is again, this is not a one-time thing. Just last week, she went viral for this interaction WITH THE PAPARAZZI. >> [cheering] >> DISREGARDED DISREGARDED AS a human. This is what it's like. So, I'm just trying to go to dinner and I've asked these people several times to get away from me. >> Just step to the side.

Step to the side. >> I've asked several times to to go away and they will not. They're hiding their face because they're ashamed. Because I've asked them um these are all the people that Can you sign this for completely disregarding all of my boundaries. She's being disregarded as a human being. So disregarded that the moment she takes out her phone and starts speaking and filming, everybody quiets down. So disregarded that she can safely stand there and film while her security stands around her and protects her from the three people taking pictures of her, the one person who's a scalper trying to get her autograph.

Okay, so here's where I do want to be empathetic and be fair because obviously, having paparazzi follow you around, it certainly is not normal. I'm sure it takes a lot of getting used to. I'm sure it is not fun dealing with that every single day, but 99% of the people who are famous, who do experience this, handle it with grace. That is the difference. Like the modern paparazzi, they have a job to do and there is a mutual benefit to all the parties involved, publicity, relevance, all of that, but apparently, our friend Chappell doesn't see it that way.

So, like the point that I'm making here by giving all of these examples is that she has a history here. That is why people are not super quick to believe her apology or believe her series of events where it wasn't really her security guard and she didn't see anybody. Like people are going, you know, based on what we have seen, we don't really believe it. Sorry, but we have seen you in action, so we're going to need something better than a half-assed barely looking at the camera apology in bed.

Like at this point, normal people are catching onto the stick. This is what Chicks in the Office from Barstool had to say about the entire thing. Chappell was trying to say she she's like, "I didn't see this mother. I didn't see this daughter. I didn't see any of them. I was just I just had breakfast at the hotel." No, she was like, "No one bothered me. I had no issues." In my head, I was like, "Yeah, no one bothered you because you told YOUR SECURITY GUARDS PROBABLY HER OWN SECURITY.

DESERVES the benefit of the doubt at this point. Saying that you have boundaries isn't like an excuse to be an [ __ ] to everyone. >> Yeah, that is And it's like whether she told the security like act like this or not, the way that she acts is kind of like she is empowering her security to like go after these people. Her video apology just seemed like so disingenuous. >> That is the thing that I thought of from the beginning.

Chappell might not even know that this happened, but based on the things that she's done in the past, like there's a video of her in an airport just like delicately pointing at somebody filming her and the security guard is like immediately going after them. Like based ON ALL OF THAT, I WOULD NOT BE surprised if her team is acting without her even having to direct them because they know how seriously she takes these boundaries and how upset she gets when somebody even smiles at her, apparently.

So, everything that those Barstool employees said completely valid in my mind, but here's the thing. Chappell Roan's stands, her fans are so rabid and they are about as touchy as she is. Like look at this comment underneath that video. This person said, "Oh brother, wrap up this projectionist commentary. We get it. People hate women with firm boundaries. That man speaking is a red flag." Okay, no, people don't hate women with boundaries.

They hate [ __ ] It is literally that simple. But guys, this is the kind of commentary that we are dealing with here. And also, when I went to TikTok to see how people were reacting over there, I mean, my jaw hit the floor. I hit the mother lode of Chappell Roan fans. Just watch this. So, she posted another week, another fake outrage against Chappell Roan. Y'all have lost it over accusations made by a dude you had no idea existed until yesterday.

1690 Salem is calling. All right, I'm so glad that we're all on the same page here, that being held accountable for allegedly harassing a child is akin to the Salem witch trials. Yeah, that's super super legit and very reasonable. Now, another guy posted this. Even if she yelled at the little girl, I wouldn't give a [ __ ] I don't understand why everyone's going to war for this random little girl that didn't write red wine supernova.

Sir, maybe it's because most normal people in society who do not view children as some sort of crotch goblin understand that the generally accepted social standard is to be kind and decent to children, especially when they have done nothing wrong. Again, it is genuinely very simple. Another person commented and said, "I have never loved or respected Chappell Roan more than now. A woman putting boundaries is disrespect to so many.

We are truly not as woke as we thought we are. Witch hunts are ready for everyone. It doesn't matter who your parents are or how rich you are. You're not entitled." Oh my god, the boundaries, the boundaries. Our entire culture is so obsessed with themselves. Me, myself, and I. What serves me? I'm protecting my peace. I'm cutting off anything that's interfering with my energy and my moons and Saturn, whatever the freak they're talk I'm over it.

You don't have to be a selfless person 24/7, but you kind of just have to have some self-awareness and some basic freaking decency. That's all we're asking for. Somebody else commented and said, "If you don't like Chappell Roan and you repeat the narrative of the hate campaign against her, I know you're a bad person because in reality, this woman has done nothing more than always set normal boundaries. You have a lot of internalized misogyny and homophobia."

Okay, well, for your information, Nina, the small woman, I would say this if anyone was rude to a child. It is 2026. Nobody cares that she's a lesbian. This is not about misogyny or homophobia. It is about the fact that allegedly sent a grown man to harass a child. That is not a normal boundary. That is over the top. That is paranoia. That is arrogance. I don't even know what it is, but it is simply not normal. And people on the internet are not just participating in some kind of coordinated hate campaign.

They care about the fact that time and time again, she attacks and genuinely seems to resent the fans that gave her the success in the first place and hates the people that are just trying to do their jobs, which help keeps her relevant. She's literally biting the hand that feeds her every single day. And contrary to what her fans might say online, the paparazzi that follow her around the that you saw in that video, they are nothing.

They are mild and subdued and kind and decent compared to what somebody like Britney Spears dealt with back in the day. It's nothing like what Taylor Swift deals with today. It's nothing like what Justin Bieber endures, especially when there is allegedly a certain somebody who is behind the paparazzi, who is hunting him, who's really trying to catch him in a bad light. That is not what is happening with Chappell. But regardless, somebody posted this and said, "Celebrities such as Britney Spears and Amy Winehouse needed somebody like Chappell so badly.

It's good to see a woman putting those actually horrendous people in their place. They've run too many celebrities into the ground. And now, all of this is fair, that is true about the old paparazzi, but let's be real and come down to earth for a second because it is not Chappell Roan who has suddenly changed paparazzi and changed celebrity culture. And on that note, somebody replied and said, "Imagine thinking Chappell Roan doing the most was going to help Britney Spears at the height of paparazzi and tabloid media.

Britney had to suffer so that Chappell Roan could even complain about having just three paparazzi on her." Like, thank you. Literally took the words right out of my mouth. The people who actually put that old paparazzi the tabloid media in their place are people like Britney Spears, like Halle Berry, and Jennifer Garner who actually both passed legislation to help protect themselves and protect the privacy of their children.

They actually did something. But Chappell Roan taking selfies and yelling at the four people if at all taking pictures of you is not the same. Now, I do want to be fair because you might have seen this online. I want to paint the entire picture for you because I did see a lot of comments saying, you know, she was at her wit's end, these people had been following her around in Paris, they had been harassing her, this was justified, you know, even with the little girl she'd been on edge this entire week.

And then they posted as evidence for what was happening in Paris before she got to Brazil. They posted this. Just watch. Last yesterday was terrible, terrible, terrible. Is she's a good lady, but she's terrible. Yes, Ella. I mean, guys, that one was dead silent. It's like she had already bullied that paparazzi. They were not going to crack a peep in front of her. All right, but we have two more. Chappell. You look amazing, Chappell.

We love you. Thank you. You're welcome. Thank you, boss. Oh, Chappell. Hello. You look beautiful. Just don't get the slipper. What? Be nice. I mean, guys, please tell me, where was the harassment? Where was this invasive? Where was it bullying? Where was it overwhelming? This is like the most mild case of the paparazzi that I have ever seen. Now, in line with all of this, as both of these kind of scandals and these viral videos were going crazy, the singer Boy George, who was one of the first queer pop pioneer, sorry JoJo Siwa, he came before you, he commented on this entire scandal with some advice for Chappell.

And he was way nicer than how I'm feeling, I will say. He said, "It's probably not helpful, but I've been doing this fame thing for a while. And you learn slowly and painfully that you don't get a free pass once you turn yourself into a bird of paradise. I watched Chappell Roan filming the paps in Paris and I laughed because I've kicked off at them many times. The trick is to own your fame. Yes, it is annoying at times, but so is being ignored and told that you are a has-been.

Life is always now, and I think Chappell looks great, but cheer up, girl. The world is at your feet, stop kicking it. It takes so much more time to say no to a picture or a signature. Boundaries are boring, break them with the magic of kindness. Break them with the magic of kindness." I also loved the line, "The world is at your feet, stop kicking it." Chappell Roan, you won best new artist at the Grammys last year.

You sell out every single show. Festivals book you, and they have to move you to the main stage because of the tens of thousands of people who travel across the country or the world to see you. With all due respect, genuinely, you were a nobody 24 months ago. And now, you should realize that you have the privilege to send a security guard to allegedly go after a child that looked at you wrong. That's not somebody disregarding your humanity or whatever it was you said to the paparazzi, that is privilege and elitism, point blank.

Now, you might be expecting this coming from me, but obviously, the first person who I thought of when I was going through the story, when I read that line about, you know, the world being at your feet from Boy George, it was Taylor Swift. Because Taylor Swift, sorry, not to be like a fan girl or anything, Taylor Swift is hounded everywhere she goes. Who has to deal with thousands of fans showing up to her friend's private wedding to pose in front of her New York City apartment hoping to catch a glimpse of her through the window.

That is what she deals with on a daily basis. Her walking out and seeing fans, her hugging fans at her ginormous tour, stopping and taking pictures of people when she's leaving a restaurant. She makes this a normal practice. And obviously, yes, a lot of it is business, but again, I do think that she genuinely has gratitude and has a love for what she does and who she is. I'm thinking about her, I'm thinking about this clip, and I'm like, "Oh my god, Chappell Roan, would it kill you to have a little bit of gratitude?

Like just a semblance of kindness and humility towards the people who love you and the four photographers who are outside your hotel trying to keep you relevant in the media. I get it's annoying, but it's four photographers. Because this act that you put on, it is tiresome. And outside of your hardcore fandom that honestly is a little unstable and going crazy, the world sees through it. So, take your half-assed apology right back to Missouri, we aren't accepting it.
