Brett Cooper — How Far the Left Will Go to Punish Team USA | Episode 142

Well guys, it seems like the only real life heated rivalry that we are going to see is between lunatic leftists and the USA men's hockey team because you guessed it, they did not fall into line. So, as we talked about in Tuesday's episode, the Olympics are already very politicized and what should have been a very unifying moment for both the left and the right, no matter who you are, your background, whatever, after we absolutely whooped Canada's ass in both men and women's hockey, has now been turned completely upside down by rabid, angry people online.

And so, all of that patriotic glee that we were all feeling, well, it was fleeting because, God forbid, the Team USA men's hockey team took a call from Trump after their big win. And oh my goodness, they even visited the White House. Can you believe it? Now, you guys just need to see how the media in the span of like 48 hours has done a complete 180 on these young men. This was my favorite headline. This is from USA Today.

They wrote, "The USA men's hockey team utterly failed to meet the cultural moment." What do you mean failed? They didn't fail at anything. They actually won. They did their jobs. They literally owe you nothing. Journalists, the men's hockey team, they do not exist to appease you. That's actually going to be a big through line of this episode. These men, they are not here to do what you want. Their lives do not revolve around you, but a lot of women online think that they do.

Anyway, going on from that, this one was also fantastic from the New York Times. They wrote, "The US men's hockey team won gold and then they lost the room." And then just like listen to the nauseating disdain with which this journalist wrote. So he writes, "The US men's hockey team won Olympic gold for the first time since the miracle on ice 46 years ago. And for a time, the joy belonged to everyone. But by the next day, it didn't.

Dun. In the immediate aftermath of their victory, the team took a customary congratulatory call from President Donald Trump, and some players laughed at a misogynistic joke about the goldinning women's hockey team that many Americans wouldn't find funny. Then on top of that, he writes, "Some members of the team announced plans to step into the House Chamber, a stage upon which symbolism is never neutral, to make an appearance at Trump's State of the Union, which happened last night, Tuesday night."

He goes on and he writes, "In normal times, this would be an obligatory celebration for a championship team. They take presidential calls. They party too hard. They visit Washington. They stroll through the corridors of power. But this isn't a neutral climate. This is not a neutral president. When has there ever been a neutral president?" Sorry, I'm going to go off on a tangent there. Okay. And in a nation this polarized, the proximity carries weight.

Whether the players are being intentional or merely naive, America no longer experiences these rituals in the same way, and it may never again. And athletes would be wise to recognize that in this climate, celebration is easily repurposed into political capital. So in other words, what this journalist was actually trying to say is that athletes would be wise to not step out of line because then they will attack you.

They will cancel you to no end because obviously that's the right and compassionate thing to do. Obviously, like no, what you saw there was a threat. It's threatening other athletes with the outrage that this hockey team is receiving. So let's go back in time. Let's break down what actually happened over the last 48 hours so that you can understand why so many leftist women are melting down on TikTok. Okay, so as the New York Times reporter said, after the men's hockey team won and Cash Patel was strangely in Italy chugging beer with them in the locker room. I don't know why he was there, but he was. We're not going to get into that today. You guys know how I feel about Cash Patel and his hypocrisy and jet setting around whatever it is.

Anyway, after that, the team took a call from Trump to congratulate them on this massive historic win. And if that was not atrocious enough, if just simply taking the call was not appalling enough, the earth shook when these young men laughed at a joke that Donald Trump made. So, let's just watch this video. This was livereamed to the entire world. Okay. >> I said, "We're giving the State of the Union speech on Tuesday night.

I could send the military plan or something, but if you would like to, it's the mo It's the coolest night. It's the biggest >> We're in. Can you pick us can you pick us up in Miami on Tuesday morning? [clears throat] >> I must tell you we're going to have to bring the woman's team. You do know THAT I do believe I probably would be impeached. Okay. [laughter] >> I'm just cheesing the entire time I'm watching this. This is like so sweet.

It's so funny. They're so excited. There's that one guy in the back who's like, "Hey, could you pick us up in Miami cuz we're going to go party." They were out like at clubs having a great time, celebrating, being joyous. I don't know if they took Cash Patel with them. Would not be surprised if he was there. They were having fun. And when Trump said, "Hey, I'm going to bring the girls as well." They weren't going, "We have to bring the girls."

SOMEBODY IN THE BACK WAS LIKE, "TWO FOR TWO. This is awesome." And they all laughed at Trump's joke about how he would be impeached if he did not invite them. Like, okay, what am I missing here? Why is the internet absolutely losing their mind? Like guys, Donald Trump has been in the public eye, has been in the entertainment space for decades, for most of his life. He has also now been in politics for 10 years. Are you people still trying to figure out his humor?

Are you still trying to like navigate the way that he speaks and the way that he posts? Like, this should be second nature now. It should be background noise. >> We do a little trolling. It's called we do a little trolling. >> Come on, touch grass. This is not a big deal. And in my mind, in the grand scheme of jokes and locker room talk, this was mild. This was actually goodnatured. But still, immediately the internet erupted.

One woman commented and said, "Seeing the Team USA men's hockey team basically melting with joy on the phone with Trump and laughing along with his misogynistic joke about the women's hockey team just proves again how up the level of misogyny is in the world of professional athletes." Another person said, "Not to be mean, but if I was dating or married to somebody on Team USA who was laughing in that room when Trump made that classless joke about the women's hockey team, I'd be giving myself a hard look in the mirror.

If these men don't respect women who play the same sport as them, also won a gold medal against Canada just like they did. Do you really think they respect you? Okay, so now we're making it about the wags, the wives and girlfriends of these players. A decent human being doesn't think jokes like that are funny. I'm sorry. A lot of us do. A lot of people might not have laughed at it, not because they're offended, but again, because it was so freaking mild.

You guys need to get a grip and learn about comedy. Anyway, this person goes on and says, "If they were drunk at the time of hearing it, you would think that they would apologize the next day and make their views clear. haven't seen an apology from anyone. So, yeah, they're always waiting for the apology, setting an alarm 6 am in the morning to see if somebody apologized for the transgression that they're yelling about online.

Like, again, give me a break. Like, spare me the fake outrage. Few people literally voted for a man who said that poor kids can be just as smart as white kids. And you're probably in the next election going to vote for a man who just told a room of black voters in Atlanta that he's just like them because he also can't read. Where's the outrage over those comments? Isn't that racist? Is Isn't that offensive? crickets crickets online from the left.

But then Trump makes an innocent and honestly kind of self-deprecating comment, a bad joke, and you all decide that protecting women's hockey is now the hill that you are going to die on. And I would bet that for a lot of people prior to this controversy, you didn't even know that there was a women's hockey team, but that is besides the point. We'll talk about that later. And also, guys, if you actually took a second to think about why Trump was saying that, you would get it.

This joke actually was objectively funny. And it's funny because it was not at the expense of the female hockey players. It was about you. You people online, the liberals who get their panties in a bunch about everything, who blame Trump for everything. And your outrage online over the last 48 hours proves his point. You are making his joke zing. And maybe if you care so much about the women's hockey team, if you care so much about this camaraderie between the men and the women, maybe instead of trying to cancel these players over drunkenly laughing about Trump's joke, maybe you should actually take a look at what they said about the women's hockey team.

Just watch. If there was a camera on me and Quinn when the women's team won, we looked like the biggest super fans of all time. We were just jumping up and down. We couldn't believe it. Then we locked in, said goodbye to everyone cuz we had a game the next night. It was it was late and we sprinted out of there. But I remember I saw Megan and the calf. Uh I think it was the night we beat Slovakia. So the night after they won the gold medal and we were just waiting for food and we were talking and I was just like, "Megan, I'm so proud of you.

I'm so happy for you. You know, couldn't have happened to a better person. And obviously, you know, when mine went in, I'm just like so many things, thoughts, and you know, one of my first thoughts was her and I'm just like so proud to join her as a gold medalist and be able to win the men's and the women's team go over to Italy and win the gold medal. It's so special for the US. Now, on top of that, Jack Hughes, who was speaking there and who shot the winning goal for the men's hockey team, he said that the women's hockey team, their win, that final shot that helped them also beat Canada was what inspired him.

What like put a fire under his ass. He was like, "Okay, if they're doing that, we can do this, too." He was inspired by them. They went first. They were there at the game, cheering them on, being Team USA. Sounds pretty supportive and not sexist and not misogynistic, if you ask me. But also, guys, let's take it a step further. Let's see what these players, Jack and Quinn Hughes, what their mom had to say about this, who by the way, the only reason I'm showing you this clip is because she is a player development consultant for the Team USA women's hockey team.

Just watch. >> Well, I think at the end of the day, it's just about the country and the moment that these players, both the men and women, can bring so much unity to a group and to a country. People that cheered on that don't watch hockey, people that have politics on one side or on the other side. And that's all both the men's team and the women's team care about. If you could see what we see from the inside and the men and women sharing, you know, dorms, dorm rooms and halls and flex floors and the camaraderie and the synergy and the way the women cheered on the men and the way the men cheered on the women.

That's what it's all about. >> And that is what it's all about. So what their mom is saying is that this division, this sexism, it's manufactured by miserable people online, not the men and women in those locker rooms. because that's where there's love. That is where there's synergy and support. And if anyone is sewing division and creating problems, it's you people online who will not stop tweeting and will not stop being angry.

That joke, that live stream, the drunken revalry, that was the first strike for the men's hockey team. But it does not end there because obviously some of these players did decide to accept Trump's offer to visit the White House to attend the State of the Union. And that really put the nail in the coffin for them. Now, if I am being honest, I'm actually not surprised that the internet freaked out about this because despite it being a long-standing tradition for teams to visit the White House after a big game, a big win, be congratulated by the president, a whole lot of teams and players specifically have refused to attend in recent years because of Trump because they do not want to cross that line.

For example, one article reads, "During Trump's first term, the Philadelphia Eagles, fresh off of their 2018 Super Bowl win, had their invitation rescended after many players plan to skip. And after the 2017 NBC championship, the Golden State Warriors declined to travel to the White House due to political differences. And like, I'm sorry, but my gut reaction is that you guys are just so gay for this. Like, if I had the opportunity to go to the White House to be congratulated by Biden or Obama, like, I would go.

It's the freaking president of the United States congratulating you. That is sick. Regardless of who is in office, that's not about politics. That is about being recognized for an amazing thing that you've done representing your country. Well, especially when it comes to the Olympics. Like, that is something that should be nonpartisan. Now, going back to the story, a great example of putting differences aside and still going to the White House is Harrison Butker, who still went to the White House after the Chiefs won the Super Bowl to meet with Biden.

Even though he very publicly is on the right, very publicly disagrees with Biden's policies, was vocal about all that, he still showed up, he shook his hand, he took the pictures, he was nice, he was classy. That is the right thing to do, which is exactly how hockey player Jack Hughes felt. Just watch. >> Are you guys excited to be going to the White House and meeting Trump? >> Yeah, we're excited. I mean, anytime like everything is so political.

We're just we're athletes. We're so proud to represent the US and we get the chance to go to the White House, meet the president, you know, we're proud to be Americans and, you know, that's so patriotic. So, no matter what your views are, we're we're super excited to go to the White House tomorrow and just be a part of that. >> Just to be a part of it because again, it's patriotic. It is an honor. It is a long-standing tradition.

And we should not be shaming these men for wanting to partake in this. But of course, like many people on the internet, kind of like we were talking about yesterday, some people are just never happy. Nothing is ever good enough. One person commented and said, "I like Jack Hughes. He seems like he has a good heart. He's also 24 and hasn't yet realized that for women and queer people, our entire existence is political.

Everything we do all the time, we don't get to opt out of that." Yes, Mr. Hughes, everything is political. Okay. Well, fortunately for Mr. Hughes, his life does not revolve around what is good for you. his life does not revolve around the intricacies of being a woman or a queer person in Trump's America, whatever that means. So, kick rocks. I don't think he needs to worry about that. That is a you problem. All of this gets even funnier because as a lot of people have been pointing out during this whole snafu, is that Jack Hughes actually was one of the only hockey players who stood up for and supported the NHL's Pride nights last year.

Just watch. This is a guy that is on your side and you are still ripping him to shreds. Our team participated in its annual pride night in December, but this season a bunch of players and some entire NHL teams have declined to participate. Are you surprised to see this kind of change? The team I play for, the Devils, like we really uh support that [music] and you know, we're really welcoming organization. So, I think a bunch of the guys in our team were were looking forward to that.

And then, you know, obviously with how we grew up, my family really supports that, too. So, I can't speak for other teams, but you know, I know in New Jersey that was a night that I think everyone on our team is really welcoming and they know it's really important. So, it wasn't even a thought about not doing it. >> And there you have it. Random poster online. He's an ally. He actually is thinking about the queer people.

He is thinking about how everything is political. And yet, that still wasn't good enough. That was not enough to protect him from this outrage. They are once again eating their own. Well, actually, this time they're taking it a step further. They are now paying Etsy witches to curse them. One person retweeted a photo of all the guys with Trump and said, "I just paid an Etsy witch $7.99 for all of them to have careerending injuries."

And the comments were just insane under this post. Like somebody else said, "Let me Venmo you another $7.99 to double the hex. Can they do presidents, too? How can I donate for another hex on them? I'll pay you to do it again. Thank you for your service, queen." It's just so insane. It's so laughable and dramatic. Do you really have nothing else going on in your life that this is what you're so concerned with? Like, and also this is the difference between the radical left and the rest of us, just like normal people.

I'm not even going to say conservatives, but just like normal Americans. We can cheer on and celebrate somebody that disagrees with us or that we disagree with. Like one commenter said, "Conservatives have no problem cheering for and liking Alysa Leu, even if she has liberal views because she competed for America." The left, however, is totalitarian when prominent people defy their politics. Like what we are seeing here is actually exactly what we spoke about in the episode on Tuesday.

We are watching in real time that unravel. were screaming at us like, "How could you like Alyssa Leu? She hates you. She's awful." We are now seeing in real time how they react to athletes, to Americans who might not completely disagree with them, who are not willing to step in line, whatever it is. That is the difference between you and me. Now, shocker, the young women, the most left-wing voter block in history, they did not accept the invitation to go meet Trump at the White House.

However, I do want to read you their statement because I think it's interesting. So, a spokesperson from the organization said this. We are sincerely grateful for the invitation extended to our gold medal winning US hockey team and we deeply appreciate the recognition of their extraordinary achievement. Due to the timing and the previously scheduled academic and professional commitments following the games, the athletes are unable to participate.

They were honored to be included and are grateful for the acknowledgement. In my opinion, this statement is totally fine. You know, these athletes are still in the middle of their college and professional seasons. There are tons of commitments after the Olympics. A lot of these athletes are going and walking in fashion shows and doing brand deals, whatever it is. And I'm sure to be fair, they could have made this work because it is the president of the United States if they really wanted to be Trump, which is doubtful, obviously.

But this statement was totally respectful, totally polite, totally apolitical. I think it was the best thing they could say if they were going to turn down the invitation. However, we now know that some players are clearly upset, and internet sales have found some girls on the team liking derogatory posts about Trump's jokes. So, for example, somebody posted a Tina Fay quote, "You can tell how smart people are by what they laugh at."

There's a bunch of Team USA women's hockey girls liking that one. There's another post from Sportsish, which is like a female sports page, and they posted their tweet condemning Trump's joke. And honestly, like, who cares? Again, that's their right. I'm not surprised. They're probably around my age, a little older. I'm guessing they hate Trump. That's just kind of the MMO for young women these days. So, not surprising whatsoever.

I am not losing sleep over any of this. But now, thanks to all of this happening online, the outrage on the internet slooh pulling up these likes, SO MANY PEOPLE ONLINE WHO I CAN guarantee did not actually watch women's hockey games, maybe like me, didn't even know that there was US women's hockey until this year's Olympics, they are now rushing to their defense. Now they're acting like they are the spokespeople for women's hockey.

They're trying to cancel everyone in their wake who is standing in their way. For example, one of the female bar stool hosts said this on her show. All I'm seeing from this point are the female hockey players liking posts on Instagram that show exactly how they feel. One of them being a quote from Tina Fay that says like, you know, you can tell the kind of person you are by what kind of jokes you laugh at. All the players are liking like that.

It's just I know just as a woman, you don't see a joke like that and see a room full of men who had supported you all week long and go out of their way to make sure that they that you know that they're on their side behind closed doors laughing at your expense. You just don't feel good after seeing that. And I can't stomach or absorb any sort of argument to the contrary. She can't stomach it. She cannot absorb any rebuttal whatsoever.

Now, what's interesting to me in that clip is that she admits that these male hockey players, that they were supporting for the women, that they were cheering them on, that there was camaraderie and that laughing at an innocent joke should discount all of that. That's absurd. And also saying like it was behind closed doors. No, they were speaking to Donald Trump. They knew they were being live streamed. They knew that they were being recorded.

This was not some sneaky we hate girls thing. I don't think they thought anything of it. Now, that woman, her name is Kelly Kee. Again, she's a bar stool. Her outrage over this has apparently also stirred things up at the bar stool offices. And while she was in the office, she literally stopped in her tracks to yell at Jack Mack because of his reaction or lack thereof. You just have to watch this whole interaction. It is so so wild.

Like the audacity of her. Okay, just watch >> you. >> No, I think your tweet. >> No. And I'm sorry that you thought that. I'm saying that your tweet is stupid and you're stupid. >> And what are your tweets? >> Because you've missed the point. You've missed the point of the entire thing. you being like, "Oh, uh, she should have made her sons apologize." >> Well, yeah, that's what I that's what I stand by that. >> Feicious.

>> Well, oh, like you haven't been facitious before. >> When am I being I'm not being facious about this? >> When have you not So, I'm the I'm the only person who's been facicious. >> No, I'm saying you're you're just equally annoying and you're sitting there with your your laugh and scrolling through your Twitter as I walk by. So, I >> Twitter is not on my screen right now. >> Okay. See you later. >> [laughter] >> I literally feel like I'm watching an episode of The Office.

I mean, that was the most comical interaction. I feel like there are about 10 memes that came out of that 30 secondond clip. And Jack honestly is iconic for his facial expressions. Anyway, my favorite comment under that video was this. Don't let this distract you from the fact that Kelly did not tweet a single thing about the women winning gold until she had something to be offended about. Exactly. They did not care.

They did not care until they were told what they should be angry about. And now, again, it is the hill that they are choosing to die on. And to prove this point more, I want to tell you that the outrage did not stop at the bar stool offices. Look at what is happening on Tik Tok. >> I do love that we all loved heated rivalry. I do think it did a little bit of damage because I think that we all kind of like maybe collectively forgot that like hockey is one of the most, if not the most conservative sports with the most conservative fan base.

Like this isn't anything new. I would say it's comparable to golf or lacrosse, but like here's the thing, okay? hockey. I don't know if you guys have seen like the USA national team. Everybody's white. Everybody on the team is white. Everybody affiliated with the team is white. All the coaches are white. Like there is not a lot of people of color in that space. And like a huge draw to hockey is it's violent. Like you are encouraged to be violent.

Like the fans love to watch the violence. The players love to enact violence. Like what type of ideology do you think a white man that comes from insane amounts of wealth for his entire life that like has these violent tendencies? What type of ideology do you think that they lean towards? >> Violent tendencies. It is white men with violent tendencies. Like do you mean masculinity and men just being good at their sport?

Men who grew up in cold climates and chose to play hockey? Like it's not just because they're white and they're rich that they chose to play hockey. I think it's probably because they're from Minnesota or something like that. And also, you're saying all of this, but I'm sure you're defending the US women's hockey team. So, are they also rich, privileged, white, violent people, or do they get a pass because they have vaginas?

Like, seriously, like, spare me the outrage. I am done. But I will say, thanks to this Tik Tok, I now know the three sports my son is going to be playing: hockey, golf, and lacrosse. Thank you very much. Anyway, now of course, the women are not just angry and seething on Tik Tok, but they are also disappointed, per usual. One tweet read, "Really disheartening to see your favorite player who seemingly advocates for LGBTQ plus rights to suck up to a pedto misogynistic homophobe that is our president and what he stands for.

I could go on do better." Oh, grow up. Seriously, like, let them live a little. They're riding on one of Trump's planes. They're eating McDonald's with the president. One of them is now getting a Medal of Honor, and you were sitting at home complaining, and honestly, I do not think they care. So, again, I will say, how many times have I said this? Spare me the outrage. I loved this comment in response to that. This guy said, "I love seeing all of the fake female hockey fans seethe in shock, realizing Chad athletes from the backwoods of Michigan aren't the homoerotic social justice warriors they hallucinated them as."

In my opinion, this is like high school girls who have a crush on a guy. The guy doesn't pick them, so then they get awkward and angry. They lash out, which honestly might be exactly what happened. Peach Keenan had a hysterical response to this whole controversy. She said, "This is my diagnosis of the hockey backlash. Liberal feminists have just been rocked to their core. In the last week, they experienced an unprecedented one-two punch.

Number one, Jacob Allory engaging in dominant sexual acts on the big screen in Weathering Heights. And number two, an all heterero group of athletic superstar males dominating a team of other men from an inferior, more feminized country. This is much more than their limbic systems can handle. They haven't been exposed to this much raw masculine power all at once without even a touch of mitigating gayness in a long, long time.

Hormones are absolutely screaming. They are reacting about as well as you would expect. That's just the perfect way to put this. Like they don't know what to do with all of these feelings with strong men dominating the airwaves. So they are obviously reverting to their default settings of seething and who cares. All of this just ended up being the perfect punchline to Trump's joke because you are all so predictable, so outraged, and so sensitive.
